Description
Original Post for Kyla:

Kyla was brought to the shelter by animal control when she was found living in a car with her owner, who loved her dearly but could not keep her with nowhere to go. Kyla was taken in by a shelter and waited many months for someone to come and get her. She has been a staff and volunteer favorite and has been easy for everyone to handle.

Kyla is a happy, playful girl who enjoys meeting all people. She is super friendly and lived with children in her previous home we believed she was loved and the family just fell on hard times

She tested well with cats but will need to be an only dog at this time. Kyla is currently being professionally trained and her trainers report that she is a fast learner and very smart. She is a boxer mix who is 3 years old and about 55 pounds. Kyla is a special girl who is looking for someone to give her a second chance at love.

The following are from the NJSH Pet Rescue Facebook Posts for Kyla - who is still searching for her forever home ❤️🐶🏡:

It’s always a plus to see how a shelter dog will behave in a home and Kyla showed us just what a good girl she is!!

She isn’t concentrating on the past so we won’t either. Kyla was just so happy to play with her toys. She happily emptied the toy box and was very respectful of the things that didn’t belong to her.

Kyla slept through the night, is completely housebroken and enjoyed her walks. She was friendly with every person she met and non reactive to dogs on the walk. We are still working on dog interactions with her but she ran into two off leash dogs and she handled it beautifully. For now we would like to put her in a home as an only dog.

Kyla is ok with cats !! This sweet girl is so affectionate and loves to sit next to you on the couch.

Kyla is waiting patiently at Pawsome University with Jamie and John for a foster or forever home. We thank them for taking such good care of her!!

We are so glad we took a chance on this dog! Kyla was a family dog - she lived with a small child. She was happy and amazingly so she still is. Kyla is a happy, playful dog !!

She has been at Pawsome Unniversity so that we would have a chance to get to know her before finding a foster or adopter. In a month’s time we have found neither.

What we have found is that she is great on leash - good in the car - will play all day. Kyla actually occupies herself with her toys - she throws them in the air happily.

Kyla is spending the week with one of our volunteers and after a trip to the beach she settled in for her first evening in a home in a very long time. Please consider giving her a second chance family - she is so deserving ❤️

Where is my place called home??

Kyla was such a good girl - she waited for many months for her family to come back for her. She cooperated with everyone and patiently sat and hoped that things would change. On Wednesday we will celebrate her one month anniversary with us.
Kyla is ready to find a foster or adopter !! She is such a happy girl and we all adore her. Kyla is a 2-3 year old boxer mix and a nice size at about 50 pounds.

Kyla is a good listener and very well behaved. She lived with children in her home and was already a part of a family. We believed she was loved.

Kyla is good with cats and we have been walking her with dogs but would like an only dog home for her for now. She comes with training support - although we think she is ready to fly on her own.

Please consider this special girl !!

A visit with Kyla !!

So much progress in such a short period of time and we are so happy for her.

We know that dogs wake up every day with hope in their hearts and we believe Kyla did just that!! It’s the only way you make it through 10 months in the shelter.

The saddest part for us is knowing what we know now - we know that she was loved and part of a family. We know that she lived with children. We know in our hearts that she hoped that her family would be coming for her. Sadly that will not be.
Testing in a shelter environment is not always accurate. Dogs are stressed from their ordeal, the shelter is noisy and chaotic. It’s no one’s fault it’s just the way it is. Unfortunately Kyla failed both her food and dog test. Which made her rescue only.
Sometimes as a rescue we have to make decisions that are based solely on a feeling - we see something that perhaps others don’t see but we can never really know for sure until we have the dog.

Our recipe for success with all of our long term kennel dogs has been the same. Training and decompressing first.

Kyla is so much more relaxed, able to walk alongside dogs and has shown no evidence of food issues. Of course we will continue to move slowly.

We know that Kyla belongs in a home and we all agree she is just looking to go home. We are currently looking for a foster for her - it’s what she needs. A quiet home without a dog would be best for her at this time. We provide everything and that includes training help !! Please consider helping us give Kyla a beautiful new beginning 🩷

Things have most certainly changed for Kyla. She has spent 3 weeks at Pawsome University and we couldn’t be more pleased. Kyla is much more relaxed and she has shown us just what a good girl she is.
