Nikki the Husky / Lab / Hound Mix at NJSH Pet Rescue

Nikki was surrendered to the shelter and we really aren't sure why, sometimes there is no story. She is a husky/lab/hound mix who is a little over a year old.

We met her when she first came in and assumed she would be adopted quickly. Nikki is pretty and very friendly so we were surprised that she was there every time we visited the shelter.

We decided that such a beautiful girl needed to get out - so she came home with us.

She passed all temperament tests and the shelter. We believe that with proper introductions she will be fine with dogs, she seems to be fearful of cats.

Nikki is a great walk on leash, she is good in the car but a bit of a jumper so older considerate kids only at this time. She is smart and eager to please so training will be a breeze. Nikki seems to have had some training because she knows touch and responds to a clicker.

Another beautiful girl Nicole!! We have met her many times. Today she was so happy to see us outside and wanted to be a part of our little playgroup. Nicole is a beautiful lab/ husky mix. She is happy, playful and waiting much too long for a home of her own.

Nicole will need more socialization with other dogs which we will do. We would love to find her a foster home with no dog for the time being. She had dogs playing right in front of her and was not barking - was she wanting to play? We can unlock that mystery together.

Nicole is only 15 months old and passed all temperament tests at the shelter!!

February 22, 2024

The first walk is always so much fun to see!! Nikki has been in the shelter since December 29th so getting out and smelling all the smells is like winning the lottery!!

We are going to give her some time to settle in and then we will do some testing of our own.

What we can tell you so far - she is delightful !! Nikki did well on leash, was great in the car and has been very cooperative with both staff and volunteers. Nikki is very affectionate and loving!!

We will keep posting updates but she is a gem!!

Nikki is a NJ shelter dog and people ask - why was she there so long ? - what is her story? This is the story - there are many dogs sitting in the shelter that have no tale to tell- they haven’t done a thing to deserve their fate.

They are just sitting there everyday doing their very best to get through!! They wake up each day hoping that someone will come.
